Executive Evaluation
One of a nonprofit board’s most important responsibilities is to evaluate the executive director. Evaluating the executive director is linked to evaluating the organization’s overall progress. The evaluation should focus on how the executive director’s performance is impacting the organization’s ability to fulfill its mission and meet both short- and long-term goals. It should not be a checklist of tasks with report card grades attached. It should be a conversation between the ED and Board representatives that analyzes progress to date and makes recommendations for needed improvement.
This document gives an overview of how to do this effectively, including:
- Purpose
- Executive Director Performance Review Activities
- Samples: Self-Assessment of Performance, Summary Report of Performance Review, Performance Review Form, Executive Director Performance Review
