Southern Regional CAC is pleased to host Leading People and Crafting Culture: Core Concepts for Building Strong Chapters. This immersive training is designed to enhance your leadership skills and organizational effectiveness. We will delve into critical topics that are pivotal for driving success and fostering a productive work environment at your Chapter. Participants will engage in interactive exercises to apply newfound knowledge to real-world challenges. You will be equipped with actionable strategies and a deeper understanding of how to lead people, develop strong systems, and craft culture.

Core Concepts to be Discussed Include:

1. Leading People 

  • Practicing Supervision – Distinguish between performance management and supervision to effectively guide your team towards achieving organizational goals.
  • Designing Effective Staff Meetings – Transform mundane staff meetings into engaging and productive sessions that foster collaboration and efficiency.
  • Onboarding and Offboarding – Standardize the process of integrating new team members and transitioning departing staff to ensure continuity and clarity.
  • Exploring the Importance of Deep Work and Retreats – Discover strategies for meaningful work that propels your mission forward. Learn how to create opportunities for deep work and retreats that boost creativity and staff retention without significant financial investment.

2. Developing Strong Systems 

  • Project Management – Effectively organize and guide projects to ensure clarity of scope, defined roles, and timely delivery and achievement of objectives.
  • Information Sharing Tools – Utilize platforms and technologies that streamline communication and collaboration across teams.
  • Standard Operating Procedures – Document routine processes to promote efficiency, consistency, and quality in daily operations.
  • Data and Evaluation – Collect and analyze key performance metrics to inform decision-making and measure impact.

3. Crafting Culture 

  • Identifying Key Organizational Rituals – Explore the power of rituals in reinforcing organizational culture and enhancing team cohesion. Learn practical techniques for designing rituals that resonate with your team’s values and goals.
  • Overcoming a False Sense of Urgency – Strategies for Prioritization – Gain tactical strategies such as calendar management and coaching techniques to effectively prioritize tasks and support your team’s success.

Interactive Learning Approach

Throughout the training and cohort sessions, participants will engage in interactive exercises, including case scenarios grounded in the Chapter experience, to apply newfound knowledge directly to real-world challenges. Participants will be equipped with actionable strategies and a deeper understanding of how to lead people, build strong systems, design rituals, and prioritize tasks effectively within your nonprofit organization.

Who Should Attend

This training is ideal for Chapters committed to enhancing organizational efficiency, fostering a positive workplace culture, and driving impactful outcomes. Participants will be selected through an application process. Each Chapter is invited to submit one application that must include the Executive Director/CEO and may include one additional staff member, at the discretion of the Executive Director/CEO.

Emily Chittenden-Laird is the Director of SRCAC. With experience at a local CAC, leading a state Chapter, and serving as Chief Operating Officer for a communications and consulting firm, Emily now leverages her leadership expertise on a national stage, providing training and consultation within the CAC movement. Driven by a commitment to developing leaders and casting an inspiring vision for growth, Emily has dedicated her career to empowering people, fostering teamwork, and creating systems that amplify mission impact. 

Kori Stephens

Kori Stephens

Senior Program Manager, Chapter Development

Kori Stephens is the Senior Program Manager for Chapter Development at SRCAC. With over 15 years of experience in human rights and child advocacy, Kori has worked as a strategic advisor and consultant with child-serving non-profits of all sizes. Kori has been recognized for her culture-building and DEI advocacy and utilizes her Master in Public Health (MPH) to bring a systems improvement lens to her work with teams and organizations.

Cost: Tuition is free; all other costs, including travel, are the responsibility of the attending organization

Format: This is an interactive offering that includes 17 hours of large group, inperson training and three two-hour, small group Peer Cohort Sessions (virtual) focusing on strategy and implementation of core concepts.

Applications will open in May 2025 and all applicants will be notified of their acceptance by June 2025.
