Reflect. Refuel. Reset. STS Video Series
In this video series, Karen Hangartner, Director of Professional Services at the National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC), interviews three of the foremost experts in the field of secondary traumatic stress (STS)—Brian Miller, Françoise Mathieu, and Pat Fisher—to discuss how individuals, organizations, and supervisors are impacted by STS and what strategies can be utilized to mitigate these impacts. Karen also speaks with NCAC Chief Executive Officer, Chris Newlin, about senior leadership’s role in building a healthy, productive culture within a high trauma-exposed organization. There is also a panel discussion with Karen, Brian, Françoise, and Pat.
This video series consists of four individual 45-60 minute interviews. You can view one video or the entire series depending upon your current interest.

- To gain a better understanding of the supervisors’ role in supporting their staffs as they work in trauma-exposed environments and how supervisors can balance the need to support their staff while also ensuring that clients’ needs are met.
- To learn more about how secondary traumatic stress (STS) shows up within an organization; how STS can impact an organization’s culture and productivity; and how the organization can take steps to positively address these changes and impacts to become trauma informed.
